The first time that Michael Hicks was frisked by airport security, he cried–like any 2-year-old would. He shares a name with one of the 13,500 people on the watch fist of the the F.B.I.s Terrorist Screening Center, so frying is always tricky for Mikey–now an 8-year-old third-grader and Cub Scout from Clifton, New Jersey. His family travels frequently, and Mikey is often stopped for extra screening. On a trip to the Bahamas in January, he was frisked both going and coming home. Mikey isnt the only one whose name makes it hard to get on a plane: Hundreds of others also get caught up because they share a name with someone on the watch list. In the past three years, 82,000 frustrated fliers have asked to be removed from the list. Now, under a new Secure Fright Program, airlines will collect passengers birth dates and gender, along with names–so Mikeys date of birth should prevent his being mistaken for a terrorist. “We cant just throw a bunch of names on these fists and call. it security,” says William J. Pascrell Jr., Mikeys Congressman. “If we cant get an 8-year-old off the list, the whore list becomes suspect.”

WASHINGTON — In a letter to the CEOs of UnitedHealth Group Inc., WellPoint Inc.,
Aetna Inc., Health Care Service Corporation and CIGNA HealthCare Inc.,
U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen
Sebelius called on the executives to publicly justify proposed health
insurance premium increases. Sebelius’ letter comes after a meeting last
week with these executives at the White House.
“Last Thursday, I asked CEOs to post online the actuarial justification
for premium hikes so consumers can see why their premiums are
skyrocketing. Now, it’s time for these insurance company CEOs to do
their part to make the system more transparent for the American people.
If insurance companies are going to raise rates, the least they can do
is tell us why.”
The letter comes shortly after a new analysis from Goldman Sachs found
that competition in the insurance market is so weak, insurance companies
can continue to raise rates even if it means losing customers. The
analysis found that “price competition is down” and that “incumbent
carriers seem more willing than ever to walk away from existing
business.”

firm, marks its fifth year in the marketplace with a new website and
General Manager. Under the umbrella of technology consulting and

business continuity solutions to local, national and international
clients.
Working with an array of customers from healthcare to public sector to
manufacturing, RES-Q™ offers something valuable for entities of all
sizes – security. This security is often a hard sell as many

limited to complete loss or extreme weather conditions, such as
hurricanes or tornadoes. The company is looking to its new General
Manager and website to push the message of preparedness regarding
possible IT disasters, natural and otherwise.
“Our new site provides existing and potential clients a portal for
accessing information on disaster planning and recovery options,” said
Bob Zalimeni, RES-Q™ Disaster Recovery Services’ new General Manager.
“Through this increased visibility, we look to build on our successful
track record of helping companies plan for the unexpected while
emphasizing the importance of preparedness.”
With technology serving as the backbone for many operations, there is a
pervasive element of IT infrastructure risk that often goes unaddressed.
RES-Q™ is filling that gap with an expanded menu of flexible and
affordable service plans. One popular new service offering from RES-Q™
is an option for disaster recovery testing and disk-to-disk vaulting
services via their new LEED Gold certified Data Center in Norcross.

If youre among the thousands of vacationers who will soon be trading snow boots for sandals and heading south for spring break, youll want to make sure your feet are in good shape before you step off the plane. Maintaining good foot hygiene can make your feet feel better, look better, and may prevent foot infections. According to the American Orthopaedic Foot Ankle Society (AOFAS) keeping feet healthy by practicing good foot hygiene is vital to long-term comfort and function of the feet.
The AOFAS suggests the following foot care protocol:
The AOFAS also stresses the importance of keeping your feet dry. Sweaty feet can cause rashes and eczema. Avoid wearing nylon socks in plastic or tightly fitting shoes which may not allow the feet to dry properly, aggravating the problem. Wearing thick, soft cotton socks helps draw moisture away from the feet.
If a rash occurs it may be Athletes foot, a rash often between the toes, caused by a fungus infection. Athletes foot typically responds well to treatment with anti-fungal powders and lotions along with good foot hygiene.

Its that time again. When the pants begin to creep up the leg, showing just a bit to much heel, and those shirts ride their way up the wrist, its time to switch out the clothes. I think of it as a changing of the guard. From one stalwart box of clothing to the next.
Been scheming to kick up the conjugal-visit quota with your significant other? Heres a simple solution: Do more housework. Montclair State University [New Jersey] researchers had access to data on almost 7,000 married couples from the National Survey of Families and Households, and found that married couples who share chores tend to have more sex.
Whats wrong with this picture? The NCAA and its member universities and conferences rake in hundreds of millions of dollars from TV contracts, licensing and merchandising deals and more. Coaches earn millions of dollars annually from coaching, TV and radio shows, clothing contracts and car allowances, not to mention the millions they reap from shoe companies for having their players wear the company logo and equipment. TV networks garner millions more in advertising revenue from televised games. Corporations collect millions by advertising via college football.
SALT LAKE CITY — Things are hopping these days on Capitol Hill. Some people are lobbying to get things passed. Some people are lobbying to stop things from getting passed. And then there are those trying to keep passed what they already got passed. Thats what the Carson Smith Scholarship backers were about recently as they laid out a nice, healthy lunchtime spread in the rotunda for any legislators who might be hungry. The old eat, drink and be merry — and dont forget about us when you vote — tactic.
Celebrating its 66th anniversary last night in
New York, UNCF — the United Negro College
Fund — the nations largest and most effective minority education
organization, honored the publishers of Jet and Ebony
magazine, the nations second largest bank, a renowned artist, and a Merck Co . scientist for their
contributions to education. The awards were presented at UNCFs 66th
Anniversary Dinner before a crowd of over 1,300 people at New Yorks
Sheraton New York Hotel and Tower. UNCF provides more than 10,000
scholarships each year, supports its 39 member historically black colleges
and universities, and advocates for the importance of minority education.
Linda Johnson Rice, chair and CEO of the Johnson
Publishing Company , which publishes the two magazines, accepted UNCFs
Lifetime Achievement Award on behalf of her parents, the late John and
Eunice Johnson, who founded Johnson Publishing 68 years ago. UNCFs
Presidents Award was presented to JPMorgan
Chase , for supporting $1.25 million in emergency scholarships for
graduating seniors at UNCF member colleges through the organizations Campaign for Emergency Student Aid . A second Presidents
Award was presented to the Benny Andrews Foundation. The award recognizes
the bequest of Andrews, a well-known artist whose work hangs in the Museum
of Modern Art and other museums, of a large collection of his paintings to
UNCF for exhibition at its member schools and other cultural and civic
institutions.
Dr. Donnie Eddins, a scientist at Merck Co. and a graduate of UNCF member
institution Talladega College, was honored with UNCFs “Ones to Watch”
award, which recognizes accomplished young graduates of UNCF member
colleges and universities.
JPMorgan Chases support of UNCFs Campaign for Emergency Student Aid
(CESA) brings the campaign to within $750,000 of its $5 million goal. CESA
was launched at last years UNCF Anniversary Dinner to help
recession-impacted seniors at UNCF colleges stay in school and graduate. A
UNCF survey revealed that thousands of member-college students, including
more than 2,000 graduating seniors, were carrying unpaid balances for
tuition, text books, and room and board as a result of family layoffs and
pay cuts and the disappearance of many commercial student loan programs as
part of the credit crunch. At the dinner, JPMorgan Chase Sr. Vice
President of Commercial Banking, Thelma Ferguson, challenged UNCF to raise
an additional $750,000 to meet its $5 million goal and help all the seniors
that need financial assistance to graduate and begin their careers. UNCF
urges individuals, corporations and foundations to meet this challenge to
help thousands of students to graduate this spring.
“JPMorgan Chases commitment is a challenge to all who understand the
importance of an education and the doors it can open,” said Michael L.
Lomax, UNCF president and CEO. “They have set an example and we all need
to follow their lead and help these students graduate and get the education
they need and that our nation needs them to have.”

Vacuette Coagulation Blood Collection Tube Labels give a visual reference to ensure sample volume is within the fill range. By having a visual reference on every tube, labs can eliminate quality-not-sufficient (QNS) samples and the need to re-draw patients, which helps to reduce costs associated with QNS samples and patient re-draws, as well as to improve the quality of samples and reported results. It is critical that coagulation tubes be filled to at least 90% of the stated capacity to prevent inaccurate diagnosis. Phlebotomists can verify fill-volume guide cards by referencing the tube label at the time of collection, instead of fill volume guide cards.

RadioTime Guide Will Serve as the Web Radio Tuner for the New MINI
Connected Option
DALLAS — RadioTime, Inc., a developer of technology for finding and listening to
radio online, today announced MINI has integrated the RadioTime web
radio service into its MINI Connected option, which offers a unique USB
interface for optimum integration of the Apple iPhone in the car’s audio
and infotainment system. The MINI Connected option makes MINI the first
car manufacturer in the world to offer this function in a regular
production car.
The MINI Connected option features a web radio function based on the
RadioTime directory that leverages the iPhone’s Internet connection to
tune to thousands of AM/FM and Internet-only radio stations worldwide.
Sitting in a MINI networked through MINI Connected, the driver can tune
to web radio stations airing anywhere in the world and regardless of his
current location, depending on Internet connection and network coverage.
The driver chooses his station the usual way through the car’s audio and
infotainment system, making the controls convenient and safe while
driving.
“Drivers love radio because it’s free and requires no registration or
setup, but accessing Internet radio used to require patching a
smartphone into a car’s existing sound system, and fiddling with a
smartphone’s controls,” said Bill Moore, CEO, RadioTime. “Now, instead
of looking at your smartphone screen, you can use the dash display and
MINI Joystick to tune to web radio. Radio has always been an integral
part of our cars, and we’re opening up the world of music, news, talk,
sports and entertainment that only web radio can offer.”

News reports coming out of the UK and Australia show evidence of prescription ingredients in many “natural” herb remedies sold on the Internet to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) . These popular online supplements, which claim to consist only of homeopathic ingredients, are often improperly labeled and may actually contain dangerous ingredients. Dr. J. Francois Eid, director and founder of Advanced Urological Care in New York City, is concerned about this practice, especially since, in his experience, men with erectile dysfunction choose to suffer in silence rather than seek medical help for their condition.
The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) , the governing body for medication sales in the United Kingdom, tested 138 unlicensed ED treatments and found random, uncontrolled quantities of prescription ingredients in almost two-thirds of them. “Erectile dysfunction is a condition that is easily treatable in a variety of safe ways under the careful watch of a physician,” said Dr. Eid, who has successfully treated ED patients over the last 22 years of practice. “However, since many men are embarrassed by ED, they look for help elsewhere and expose themselves to serious problems such as heart attack, stroke and severe hypertension.”
Even more troubling is the fact that many of these “natural” products falsely claimed to be approved by the Food and Drug Administration. In actuality, more than one-third of the supplements that claim to treat ED or enhance sexual performance contain sildenafil, the active ingredient in Viagra, or vardenafil, the active ingredient in Levitra. Advertisements for Viagra, Levitra and other drugs for ED warn of the dangers of taking these drugs if you are also on prescription medications that contain nitrates. Nitrates are prescribed for conditions such as angina or coronary artery disease in patients that also may suffer from ED.
The combination of nitrates with the active ingredients in ED medications could potentially lower blood pressure to an unsafe level. Under a physicians care, blood pressure levels are carefully monitored. However, an online consumer of these supplements, not approved by a doctor, will be unaware of the Viagra- or Levitra-type of ingredients in these supplements, which could either present a serious problem or exacerbate a pre-existing condition.
Conversely, according to Bloomberg News, Pfizers Viagra patent was partially rejected after it was discovered that the active ingredient [sildenafil citrate] was too similar to a Chinese herb known as Horny Goat Weed. An appeals board upheld the decision that “an element, or claim, of the patent for a method of treating male erectile dysfunction didnt cover a new invention.” The patent claim was part of an infringement suit Pfizer filed in 2002 against Eli Lilly over its rival Cialis drug. The decision on that part of the patent will now go into appeals.

Thomson Reuters today announced that it has signed an agreement with Genscape, the leading global provider of proprietary energy information for commodity and financial markets, to provide Thomson Reuters commodities customers with exclusive redistributor access to Genscapes unique mid-week oil storage report for Americas top oil storage hub in Cushing, Oklahoma.
Cushing, Oklahoma boasts one of the largest concentrations of crude oil storage tanks in the world and is the delivery point for the physical settlement of the CME/NYMEX crude oil futures contract. Unlike other storage sites, Cushing is some distance from the nearest refinery so oil stored at the site is mainly held for trading rather than operational reasons.
In addition to counting toward total crude oil inventories in the United States — a figure which has a large effect on global crude oil prices — the Cushing storage number is a strong indicator of expectations for future price movements and is the physical yardstick that best reveals the thinking of speculative futures and forward traders. Traders in the international crude markets have over time increased their trading activity around the Cushing oil storage numbers.
The US Energy Information Administration (EIA) has, since 2004, surveyed a number of Cushing storage operators on Fridays, before publishing its data on the following Wednesday at 10:30 am US eastern time. However the EIA data is based on accounting changes, not actual storage meter readings, and is published five days after the survey is completed.
In order to provide the market with a more detailed and timely gauge of the level of Cushing storage, Genscape, in early 2009, started remotely and directly measuring the storage levels. The company takes pictures in the visual and infra-red spectrum of every tank (more than 300 in total) before using proprietary tools to establish the storage level. The Midweek Storage Report data collected on Tuesday is released on Thursday and gives market participants a good indication of what to expect for the following weeks EIA release days ahead of the rest of the market.

commercial banking industry.
Since Q108, BMI have described numerically the banking business
environment for each of the countries surveyed by BMI. BMI do this
through their Commercial Banking Business Environment Rating (CBBER), a
measure that ensures BMI capture the latest quantitative information
available. It also ensures consistency across all countries and between
the inputs to the CBBER and the Insurance Business Environment Rating,
which is likewise now a feature of BMIs insurance reports. Like the
Business Environment Ratings calculated by BMI for all the other
industries on which it reports, the CBBER takes into account the limits
of potential returns and the risks to the realisation of those returns.
It is weighted 70% to the former and 30% to the latter.
The evaluation of the Limits of potential returns includes market
elements that are specific to the banking industry of the country in
question and elements that relate to that country in general. Within the
70% of the CBBER that takes into account the Limits of potential
returns, the market elements have a 60% weighting and the country
elements have a 40% weighting. The evaluation of the Risks to
realisation of returns also includes banking elements and country
elements (specifically, BMIs assessment of long-term country risk).
However, within the 30% of the CBBER that take into account the risks,
these elements are weighted 40% and 60%, respectively.
Further details on how BMI calculate the CBBER are provided at the end
of this report. In general, though, three aspects need to be borne in
mind in interpreting the CBBERs. The first is that the market elements
of the Limits of potential returns are by far the most heavily
weighted of the fBMIs elements. They account for 60% of 70% (or 42%) of
the overall CBBER. Second, if the market elements are significantly
higher than the country elements of the Limits of potential returns,
it usually implies that the banking sector is (very) large and/or
developed relative to the general wealth, stability and financial
infrastructure in the country. Conversely, if the market elements are
significantly lower than the country elements, it usually means that the
banking sector is small and/or underdeveloped relative to the general
wealth, stability and financial infrastructure in the country. Third,
within the Risks to the realisation of returns category, the market
elements (i.e. how regulations affect the development of the sector, how
regulations affect competition within it, and Moodys Investor Services
ratings for local currency deposits) can be markedly different from
BMIs long-term risk rating.

Essentials of Foreign Exchange Trading By James Chen John Wiley . Sons, Inc. $39.95; 221 pages Author James Chen states upfront that the contents of “Essentials of Foreign Exchange Trading” are not meant to be an exhaustive tome that covers all aspects of forex trading. He succeeded on that score, but he went too far to the other end of the pendulum by covering all topics very briefly without sufficient detail. The end result is a very basic hook on FX trading suitable for novices with no knowledge or experience. The book is written in a simple to read style. Chen writes clearly and his writing is easy to understand. Each chapter follows in a logical and organized fashion and the charts are large and easy to read. The book begins with a brief history and description of FX trading and covers the major players. The author then reviews the mechanics of FX trading by reviewing currency pairs, types of orders, margin calls, lot size, leverage, commissions, interest and hedging. One chapter is devoted to technical analysis, which the author claims is a “comprehensive discussion of technical analysis as it is applied to foreign exchange trading.” That claim is way off the mark. First, the discussion of over a dozen common technical indicators and basic chart patterns – candlesticks, pointand-figure – cannot possibly be comprehensive in 50 pages. Second, there was only a mild tie-in to FX trading. The discussion could easily have been about trading equities and nothing would have been lost in translation regarding technical analysis. None of the chart examples showed real charts or any time frame. They just illustrated a particular point about a trend line or support or resistance or whatever was being discussed. Real charts over specific time frames with an explanation of the meaning of the indicators and patterns would have been much more educational in all respects. The book also focuses on fundamental analysis, and the author spends many pages reviewing 1 3 basic key economic indicators of the U.S. dollar such as GDP (Gross Domestic Product), the employment situation summary, retail sales, Consumer Price Index and several more. However, there is no explanation of how the FX trader can use this information to become an astute trader. There also is a brief discussion of carry traders and global interest rates. The author makes an interesting closing statement at the end of that chapter: “The more a trader learns about fundamental market drivers, the better the trader will be prepared for the often unpredictable nature of the foreign exchange markets.” I dont see how anyone can be prepared for unpredictable markets no matter what knowledge they have. Thats what Black Swans are all about.

that enables traders to automatically tweet their actual trades and
positions to Twitter in real-time.
“Twitter integration is something our traders have been asking for and
were excited to launch this innovative new feature and leverage Twitter,”
said Asaf Yigal , co-founder and vice president of product development
at Currensee. “Tweet My Trades is different from StockTwits, TradeMonster
and many of the other Twitter-based trading apps because we automatically
tweet the traders actual trades and positions. Its one thing to say the
EUR/USD is going to break out or youre going long on the AUD/NZD, but its
quite another to actually take the position and share that information with
your followers on Twitter.”
The Tweet My Trades feature is one more example of how Currensee is
changing the world of Forex by bringing trust and transparency to traders
across the globe. By giving traders the ability to extend their trade
collaboration beyond the Currensee platform, Currensee continues to
innovate social trading for Forex traders. Since Currensee is the only
Forex platform that is connected in real time to over 100 Forex brokers,
the moment the trader executes their order, Currensee instantly sends the
tweet on the traders behalf. Traders also earn rewards in the form of
Currensee Bucks when they set-up their Tweet My Trades feature.

“As a healthcare organization it is our responsibility to contribute to
the needs of the ill and less fortunate in any way we can” said
President of Midlothian Laboratories Bryce Harvey. “AmeriCares is an
outstanding organization and we feel fortunate to partner with them in
their effort to provide disaster relief as well as to meet basic health

As geothermal continues to gain traction as a
viable and cost-effective heating, cooling and hot water alternative,
states are beginning to offer substantial financial incentives for its
deployment in commercial and residential settings. Federal and state
incentives can mean an ROI of less than five years for many geothermal
installations. For homeowners, geothermal energy has suddenly gone from
exclusive and out-of-reach to a highly attractive investment.
With any new technology and up-front investment come questions, uncertainty
and hesitation. Sam Johnston, a 30-year alternative energy veteran and
Geothermal Program Manager at Terraclime Geothermal is available to provide
perspective on the most common geothermal questions in terms home and
business owners can understand.

application, system to system and setting to setting — across multiple
healthcare enterprises. Additionally, the NHIN and CONNECT programs, led
by the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and the Federal
Health Architecture (FHA), are hosting demonstrations illustrating the
progress toward health IT interoperability nationwide. In addition to
Nextrials, participants include federal government, states, cities,
providers and health IT vendors clustered around the categories for
meaningful use: quality measurement reporting, diagnostics,
administrative efficiency, consumer empowerment, care coordination
improvement, and population and public health improvement.
“Nextrials was one of the first companies to recognize the importance of
the integration of electronic data capture formats used in clinical
trials with platforms used by the healthcare industry for electronic
health records,” commented James Rogers, CEO and co-founder of
Nextrials. “As one of the organizations taking a lead role in the
development of interoperability standards, we believe cooperative demos
such as the HIMSS Showcase are key to furthering this initiative. It has
enormous implications and benefits for the pharmaceutical RD and
healthcare industries, ranging from cost benefit improvements to
furthering the adoption of a national IT standard for healthcare
information.”
Nextrials’ award-winning Prism melds sophisticated clinical trial
management functionality with EDC in a single, integrated package. By
receiving a constant flow of data, Prism enables sponsors and sites to
fully utilize real-time integration of disparate information and data
sources, such as a hospital’s EHR or patient records, to better provide
a continuum of care for patients enrolled in clinical trials.

Study to Evaluate Safety, Reactogenicity and Immunogenicity of
Vaccine Against Shigella dysenteriae
SCHLIEREN, Switzerland — GlycoVaxyn, a pioneer in the development of innovative bioconjugate
vaccines, has commenced a Phase I clinical study with its vaccine
candidate (GVXN SD133) against Shigella dysenteriae, a cause of
serious intestinal infections. This is the first product from the
company to enter clinical evaluation.
The objective of this single-blind, first in human study is to evaluate
safety, reactogenicity and immunogenicity of the vaccine at two doses,
with or without adjuvant, in 40 healthy naïve volunteers. Data from the
study are anticipated by the end of 2010.
A conjugate vaccine, used to immunize against serious bacterial
infections, is created by linking a sugar antigen to a carrier protein
molecule. The current process to obtain such a structure is often very
complex, unreliable and expensive. GlycoVaxyn’s shigella vaccine
consists of a polysaccharide of Shigella dysenteriae O1 conjugated
to a protein carrier. It is produced using GlycoVaxyn’s novel technology
that allows the synthesis of these complex immunogenic bioconjugates via
a biological process in E. Coli, which makes the production more
effective and controlled.
To obtain a broad protection against the disease, GlycoVaxyn is also
actively developing a multivalent vaccine against Shigella flexneri
serotypes and Shigella sonnei. Conjugate vaccines are largely
used to prevent important diseases such as bacteremia (bloodstream
infection) and meningitis, with the market leader achieving nearly USD 3
billion in annual sales.

GreenMan Technologies, Inc. (OTCBB: GMTI)
today announced that its Annual Shareholders meeting will be held on
Wednesday, March 31, 2010, at 9:00 A.M. at the Burlington Marriott, One
Burlington Mall Road, Burlington, Massachusetts, 01803. In conjunction with
the mailing of the proxy statement for the Annual Meeting and the Annual
Report for the fiscal year ended September 30, 2009, the following letter
to the shareholders of GreenMan was included.
Fiscal 2009 was a transformational year for GreenMan, one in which we
completed the sale of our scrap tire recycling operations for almost $28
million and also made great strides in establishing a blueprint for our
future success. Despite the difficult economic landscape encountered in
2009, as I write to you today, GreenMan has approximately $4 million in
cash on the balance sheet which provides a strong foundation from which we
intend to grow our business, capitalize on future projects and increase
shareholder value.
A notable achievement during fiscal 2009 was our purchase of American Power
Group (”APG”) in July 2009. APG has developed a state-of-the-art,
patented, retrofit dual fuel upgrade option for diesel engines, allowing
engines to burn less diesel fuel, thereby reducing emissions as well as
operating expenses. With legislation pending to reduce greenhouse gas
emissions and efforts underway to limit our countrys dependence on foreign
oil, we believe alternative energy solutions, such as the technology
provided by APG, will represent a large growth industry in the years to
come. Likewise, APGs dual fuel solution has generated strong
international interest, particularly in countries that rely on diesel
generators due to inconsistent power grid service. APGs technology has
both stationary and vehicular applications and, by using this dual fuel
technology, a diesel engine or generator may be upgraded to operate on a
combination of compressed natural gas and diesel; on diesel fuel and
bio-methane, or on 100% diesel fuel as the situation requires. The system
is capable of displacing 40%-60% of an engines diesel fuel usage which has
historically translated to net fuel cost savings of 25%-40% over that of
engines running solely on diesel fuel. Additionally, the APG system is
non-invasive to the original equipment manufacturers engine which allows
the engine to run within all performance limits without any performance
loss.
In the months since the acquisition was completed, GreenMan has mobilized
to fully commercialize APGs dual fuel technology on a worldwide basis,
focusing on becoming the retrofit provider of choice for the estimated 20
million diesel engines in the U.S. and the estimated 40 million diesel
engines operating internationally. The demand for alternative fuel
solutions is driven by the desire for net fuel savings and improved
emissions with the market for upgrades on older generators and diesel
engines estimated to be in the hundreds of millions, if not several
billions of dollars and noticeably underserved. Our domestic business is
comprised primarily of stationary applications for generators in facilities
such as government buildings, universities, cold storage warehouses,
cities/towns, data storage centers and hospitals which are required by
federal law to have seven full days of back-up diesel or alternative fuel
power in the event of a natural or man-made disaster. We are exploring
opportunities with vehicular applications in North America, including light
to heavy duty diesel fleet trucks, refuse trucks, government vehicles and
school buses. Internationally, APG has provided stationary applications
within corporate buildings, hotels, manufacturing facilities and oil
drilling rigs as well as vehicular applications for delivery trucks, city
buses and government vehicles. South America, Africa, India, and Pakistan
are among the countries where APG has provided its technology.
Utah Technology Council Hosts Medical Device Professionals in
Discussion of Industry Landscape in 2010
SALT LAKE CITY — With Washington looking to pass health care reform, increasing concerns
about navigating the FDA and concerns about raising capital, many
medical device professionals nationwide fear the medical technology
industry may lose its competitive edge as the world leader in innovation.
Leahey addressed several key issues facing the medical device industry,
with health care reform at the top of the list. Leahey believes the tax
on medical devices included in the House and Senate bills will
significantly hinder patient care and innovation.
“We should be focusing our efforts on policies that will promote
innovation, patient care and job creation in the US,” stated Leahey.
“The proposed $20B tax on medical devices will result in companies
laying off employees, moving jobs outside the US, cutting research and
development and slowing the introduction of breakthrough therapies.”
Video gets patients more involved in hand hygiene Patients, physicians report more questions asked The video, called “Hand Hygiene Saves Lives,” was tested in common areas and patient rooms at 17 Catholic Health Partners hospitals; the research was coordinated by the Premier Healthcare alliance. The video encourages patients, family, and visitors to play a role in their own care by helping health care professionals remember to clean their hands before and after touching patients. After the video was shown, patients were twice as likely to report reminding nurses to wash their hands, and doctors were twice as likely to report being asked by patients to wash their hands. In addition, after watching the video, the majority of patients:
Data hold the key to low readmit rates As a first step toward decreasing readmission rates, examine your data, says Margaret VanAmringe, MPH, vice president of public policy and government relations in the Washington, DC, office of The Joint Commission. “Look at readmissions and discern whether there are opportunities to reduce the number,” she advises. “That will, of course, depend on disease category, population, age, and many different factors.” It will behoove you “to really analyze readmissions, assess these data, use a random sample of charts, and look to see if there is a certain group of patients in these three areas where you feel there could be the potential to prevent readmissions,” VanAmringe says. Michael C. Choo, MD, MBA, FACEP, FAAEM, ACHE, president and CEO of Clinton Memorial Hospital in Wilmington, OH, says, “Its always been very important to evaluate the data on a monthly basis and find solutions.” Choo, who served for 10 years as the ED medical director at Dayton Heart Hospital, is bringing what he learned there to his new position. “Congestive heart failure is the most difficult of the three because its especially problematic in [the Medicare] population,” he says. “Initiatives weve used include trying to identify at the time of discharge those patients who need extra support at home or additional education.” For those patients who are identified as high-risk, arrangements are made for intense home health care followed by outpatient therapy sessions, he says. His current health system has congestive heart failure clinics, where patients status is monitored to make sure they stay stable and dont return to the ED or the hospital, he says.
Compliance rates low on egress, fire safety For the first time in several years, The Joint Commission standards and goals with the lowest compliance rates are not directly related to the delivery of health care. In its annual listing of the standards or goals with the highest rates of noncompliance for the first six months of 2009, The Joint Commission listed the following: Life Safety (LS) 02.01.20: The hospital maintains the integrity of the means of egress, 45% noncompliant; Record of Care, Treatment, and Services (RC) 02.03.07: Qualified staff receive and record verbal orders, 40% noncompliant;

FILLMORE — Utahs newest and largest wind farm has blown in its first Utah scholarship recipient, providing her with $3,000 to go to college. Kelsey Mitchell, a senior at Millard High School, will be taking her award to nearby Southern Utah University, where she plans to study forensic science. “I would love to work in a lab but not in a hospital — more like a crime scene,” she said. “It helps to catch the bad guys.”

Dear Dr Cath, I FOUND lice in my boyfriends pubic hair. He says they arent crabs but head lice he caught from his job as a hairdresser. Now he has given them to me. I think hes having one-night stands and Im worried Ill get another sexually transmitted disease. PUBIC lice are different to the lice that live on the head so Im afraid your boyfriend isnt being honest by claiming he picked them up from the hair salon. You catch pubic lice by close body contact – like sex or through sharing towels or bedding.

The Pharmacy Benefit Management Institute ( PBMI ) has awarded four 2010 Rx Benefit Innovation Awards to the 1199SEIU Benefit Funds, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina, Manatee County (Florida) Government Employee Health Benefits, and Unity Health Plans Insurance Corporation with the Wisconsin Pharmacy Quality Collaborative. The awards were announced today at PBMIs 15th anniversary Drug Benefit Conference in Phoenix.
The 1199SEIU Benefit Funds are being recognized for a cost containment program offering members the most clinically effective medications at no out-of-pocket cost, while achieving a -1% drug trend. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (BCBSNC) is being recognized for a program that increased medication adherence in its chronic disease population by minimizing barriers to adherence. Manatee County Employee Health Benefits is being recognized for an integrated health management program resulting in a -3.8% drug trend and measurable improvements in employee health. Unity Health Plans Insurance Corporation and the Wisconsin Pharmacy Quality Collaborative are being recognized jointly for a novel provider-payer partnership that compensates community pharmacists for quality-based, value-added services.
“Our 2010 award recipients have demonstrated creative thinking in their solutions to ongoing cost and quality issues,” says Dana H. Felthouse, MBA, president of PBMI. “They have challenged industry norms to improve the value of the drug benefit. The importance of investing in effective plan design, health improvement and medication management is a common theme.”
Cost Savings Without Cost Shifting
In an era of increased cost shifting to participants, the 1199SEIU Benefit Funds provide 420,000 members with access to a range of generic and brand-name drugs at no cost, provided members follow the plan. The Funds aggressive management strategies include mandatory generics, mandatory mail-order for maintenance drugs, and a preferred list. If members make choices outside these parameters, they pay out-of-pocket. The approach has engaged members in using their benefits wisely and saved more than $200 million in drug costs since 2005.
Increased Medication Adherence
BCBSNC implemented member and provider strategies to increase medication adherence in a 100,000-member population with hypertension, high cholesterol, diabetes or congestive heart failure. The plan offered free generics and reduced copayments for certain brand-name drugs. Members received refill reminders and physicians received ePrescribe messages about patient adherence. Pharmaceutical representatives delivered program information to physicians during office calls. In 19 months, medication possession ratio (MPR) for the target population increased from 70.7% to 74.14%.

WASHINGTON — With a season of record-breaking snowfalls and eight weeks of winter to
go, Washingtonians have become all too familiar with the icy sidewalks,
the sore muscles, and the coughs and colds that come along with winter
weather. But for those feeling the effects of a recent fall or tighter
joints due to a lack of exercise, therapeutic massage – including simple
tips you can do at home – can offer much-needed relief.
“We tend to be less active in the cold weather months, catch more colds
and flus, and get depressed more easily. Massage is proven to help with
all these winter ailments,” says Winston Moore, massage therapist and
the Regional Operations Manager for Massage Envy, which has 19 locations
in the Baltimore/Washington, DC area. “Massage increases circulation,
boosts the immune system and causes your body to release more
stress-fighting hormones. With winter not even half over, we can all use
that right about now,” adds Moore.
Massage Envy reports a significant increase in clients with aches and
pains, and many are weather-related. Integrating therapeutic massage as
a regular health practice can not only help alleviate pain but increase
overall wellness during the cold weather months and beyond.
But what happens when you’re snowed in? Moore says fighting the winter
woes can be easier than you think, and can be had with simple items from
around the house. Here are a few simple tips that he recommends:
WE are fast approaching our first “Love Maggies Day”, which will be held the week commencing March 22. We are asking everyone who feels able to do something they love or for someone they love to help build our Maggies Centre at Newcastles Freeman Hospital. Some people are busily organising pamper nights. What could be more relaxing than reflexology or an Indian head massage to help ease physical and emotional fatigue? Emotionally cancer treatment can be draining, and feeling sensitive about a change in physical appearance is normal. Some physical changes are temporary, some are permanent, but for some people the new way they look is visible and they feel traumatised. Up and down the country, the professional cancer support staff in operational Maggies Centres are on hand to help people affected by cancer learn to overcome all the trauma and stress of physical appearance. When our Centre is built, our community will also have the opportunity to join Maggies North East workshops, helping people address issues such as “the way they feel and the impact on relationships”, “coping with hair loss” or “wig management”. Chatting to Ann Welburn from the Wig Shop in Grainger Market, Newcastle, really brought home to me the vital and essential role Maggies will play in the lives of those affected by cancer. From the day my daughters Lauren and Jessica were born, I have put them first. Making sure my children had the right clothes to help them feel comfortable in their friendship groups was important but, like many mothers, I also learned that how I look matters, not because they need me to be thin or pretty, but because they dont want me to stand out from the other parents.
CENTENNIAL, Colo. — Early production stage hydrogen generation company AlumiFuel Power, Inc.
(“API”), the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania-based wholly owned operating
subsidiary of AlumiFuel Power Corporation (OTCBB: AFPW), (the
“Company”), announced today that ActionPak Inc., a Philadelphia area
world-class packaging and assembly company with a 30-year industry
pedigree, has begun production of API’s AlumiFuel cartridges which
provide the fuel for API’s Portable Balloon Inflation System 1000
(PBIS-1000). Three PBIS-1000 units were recently purchased by a military
customer. (See API news release of February 9, 2010.)
API’s 32-oz. cartridges, filled with aluminum powder and proprietary
additives, are inserted into two reactor vessels on the PBIS-1000 to
generate 1,000 liters of hydrogen in 20 minutes once water is pumped
into the cartridges. API has designed the cartridge to withstand the
necessary temperatures and pressures, while maintaining its integrity.
API and ActionPak have devised and implemented a process to produce the
cartridges efficiently and cost effectively. API’s PBIS-1000 portable
hydrogen generator, along with ten cartridges, generates the same amount
of hydrogen (5,000 liters) as a heavy and hard-to-handle K-Cylinder. By
replacing highly pressurized K-Cylinders, API’s generator and
cartridge-based system greatly reduces the cost and danger of
transporting hydrogen, making the gas more readily available in remote
and other inaccessible locations, as well as for portable applications.
Having the flexibility, capability, and capacity to produce the
cartridges in high volumes, ActionPak agreed to manufacture API’s
cartridges on an outsourcing basis. With ActionPak’s background,
expertise, and versatility in military and commercial packaging, both
companies are looking to create a long-term relationship and have
already begun exploring options for the production of API’s Flameless
Ration Heaters for military and commercial customers worldwide. (See API
news releases of January 4, 2010 and December 21, 2009.)
API’s Director of Engineering, Mr. Sean McIntosh, said: “ActionPak is as
excited as we are about the many new business opportunities emanating
from this relationship. The proximity of their plant and their ability
to quickly adapt to new requirements are an ideal match for API’s needs.”

REDMOND, Wash. — Physio-Control Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Medtronic, Inc. (NYSE:
MDT), announced today it received notice from the U.S. Food and Drug
Administration (FDA) that having successfully met requirements
for improvements to the quality system, the company may resume
unrestricted worldwide shipments of its external defibrillators.
In May 2008, Physio-Control signed a Consent Decree with the FDA to
address issues the Agency raised during inspections of the company’s
quality system. Under the terms of this agreement, Physio-Control was
permitted to ship a limited number of products to emergency care
providers to meet public health and safety needs until quality system
improvements were completed.
“We dedicated significant energy and resources to establishing a new
operating standard for our quality system and we are pleased it has met
with the FDA’s approval,” said Brian Webster, president of
Physio-Control. “The investments we’ve made not only in our quality
system, but also in our design and manufacturing processes, will ensure
our products and services continue to meet both our customers’ high
expectations and those of the regulatory agencies. The quality of the
products shipping from Physio-Control today is higher than it has ever
been in our 55-year history. I believe the challenges we faced, and the
way we met them, have made Physio-Control a stronger company for the
long-term.”
“Our quality system investments have also led to more
streamlined innovation and product development capabilities,” said
Webster. During the past two years, Physio-Control has received FDA
510(k) clearance of the LIFEPAK 15 monitor/defibrillator, the LIFEPAK
20e defibrillator/monitor and the LIFENET® System Version 4.1, the
latest update of its web-based platform for capturing and sharing
emergent STEMI patient data. The company also introduced a new
battery-operated version of the LUCAS™ Chest Compression System, a
portable, easy-to-use device that delivers automated chest compressions
to improve blood flow in victims of cardiac arrest.
“We accept responsibility for leading our industry not only in clinical
innovation, but also in quality system performance and regulatory
compliance,” added Webster. “We are committed to raising the bar on
product quality and reliability. While this has been a difficult period
in our recent history, we are very proud to reach this milestone with
the FDA and have the opportunity to thank our customers who have
remained loyal to Physio-Control products. The end results of this
journey will be strengthened engagement with our customers, and
best-in-class products that will support the emergency care community.”

Cinema possesses a rich history of collaboration between artists of sound, narrative, and image. However, traditional tendencies to perceive music as a strictly supportive background or accompaniment have been subjected to in-depth critique only recently. Abigail Childs interactions with musicians in Is This What You Were Born For? (1981-89) and Bill Morrisons partnership with composer Michael Gordon in Decasia (2001) exemplify (but by no means exhaust the possibilities of) the broader range of collaborative textures that cinema has always suggested. Not coincidentally, these works represent the influence on cinema of two popular music practices: the ubiquitous re-mixing that has emerged from hip-hop culture and the group composition typical of many rock bands. Abigail Child (also a poet, critic, and scholar) has had an influential career as an experimental filmmaker since the mid-1970s when she turned from professional documentary work to the creation of independent films focusing on gender, sexuality, class, and the critical possibilities of montage. Recycling found footage from a wide variety of sources, such as porn, industrial films, and home movies, and progressing cinematic techniques often associated primarily with the historical avant-garde of the early twentieth century, Child has created an oeuvre of incredible beauty and continuing social relevance. Her films are shown at major art museums and in experimental cinema venues and can be obtained through a variety of distribution channels. Is This What You Were Born For?, the series of short films Child created in the 1980s, underscores her exploration of interdisciplinary collaboration and these endeavors have had on her work. Michael Gordons award-winning career as a composer has resulted in a variety of notable intermedia collaborations, including for example operas with diegetic film components progressing beyond the more familiar application of projection as scenery and non-narrative music performances incorporating video. Gordon is a founding member of the highly regarded new music organization Bang on a Can, a group dedicated to facilitating the composition and performance of new music, often with an interdisciplinary dimension and independently of conservative academic contexts. Decasia, Gordons internationally celebrated collaboration with filmmaker Bill Morrison, is a symphony for full orchestra paired with a montage of archival nitrate footage in various states of intriguing and evocative decomposition. The final version of the film, edited to fit the live recording of the symphony performance, was featured in the 2002 Sundance Film Festival. Decasia synaesthetically elucidates subtleties inherent to myriad generative tensions: progress/tradition, memory/time, darkness/illumination, and mini-malism/totalism.

NEW YORK — Fitch Ratings currently maintains ratings as listed below on student
loan asset-backed securities issued by Brazos Higher Education Authority
Inc., (BHEA) under an Amended and Restated Indenture, dated as of Feb.
1, 2007 (the Indenture), between BHEA and U.S. Bank National
Association, as Trustee. BHEA has requested that Fitch confirm its
existing ratings on the securities issued under the Indenture upon the
adoption and effectiveness of a supplemental indenture (the Supplement).
Consistent with its statements on policies regarding rating
confirmations in structured finance transactions (Jan. 13, 2009) and
student loan confirms (May 8, 2009), Fitch is treating this request as a
notification.
The Supplement permits BHEA to use funds held under the Indenture that
are deposited into the bond redemption fund to purchase outstanding
auction rate securities issued under the Indenture at a price less than
par. Bondholder participation in any such purchases is voluntary.
Amounts held in the bond redemption fund are currently used to redeem
securities at par plus accrued interest. Any securities purchased by
BHEA at a discount with amounts held in the principal distribution fund
will be required to be immediately tendered to the Trustee for
cancellation.
Based on the information provided, Fitch has determined that the
execution and delivery of the Supplement and the changes to the
Indenture contained in the Supplement will not have an impact on the
existing ratings on the securities issued under the Indenture. This
determination only addresses the effect of the Supplement and its
changes on the current ratings assigned by Fitch to the securities
issued under the Indenture and listed below. It does not address whether
this change is permitted by the terms of the documents nor does it
address whether it is in the best interests of, or prejudicial to, some
or all of the holders of the securities listed.
Based on the trust estates balance sheet as of Sept. 30, 2009, if any
securities are purchased at a discount under the Supplement the result
on the trust estate would likely be positive. Fitch would expect
increases in the senior and total parity ratios, as well as the
subordination level for the senior securities. Both the composition of
the loan pool held under the Indenture and the weighted average coupon
rate of the securities are not expected to change materially.
The ratings assigned by Fitch are based on the documents and information
provided to Fitch by BHEA and other parties and the receipt of final
closing documents. Fitch relies on all these parties for the accuracy of
such information and documents. Fitch did not audit or verify the truth
or accuracy of such information.
The state of the economy has a strong bearing on the level and direction
of lending growth. The demand for loans is directly related to consumer
demand, which itself is related to wages, employment and economic
growth. Hence in order to accurately evaluate the state and prospects of
the consumer lending market a firm grasp of the state of the economy is
essential.
This report seeks to assess the personal lending market over the last
few years and to forecast the market to 2013 in light of economic and
market conditions.

accounting and reporting to bureaus and industry databases. These
services, provided since 2000, contributed to the insurer’s growth from
a start-up in 2000 to managing more than $110 million in direct written
premium in 2009, exemplified through the addition of another line of
business and expansion beyond the Florida borders into South Carolina.
CSC currently administers the company’s property business in Florida and
South Carolina on the latest versions of CSC’s POINT IN policy
administration system and Agency Link, the software automating the front
end.
Through this extension, Sunshine State and CSC are expanding the
technology and services for improved risk management and selection,
business analytics and advanced Web 2.0 capabilities. Agents can enter
data, obtain quotes, underwrite and issue policies online, as well as
conduct other functions throughout the policy lifecycle, all in a matter
of minutes.
“The Agency Link functionality has already been released to our first
group of agents, and the response has been phenomenal. Many of them
attribute their success to how quickly they can provide answers to their
customers,” said John Rogan, president and CEO, Sunshine State. “CSC’s
BPO services have also enabled Sunshine State to employ a virtual
insurer model with a focus on delivering exceptional service. As we
expand, CSC’s BPO staff and systems can scale to meet our needs.”
It was in no small part a consequence of the economic recession that 2009 saw an unprecedented increase in the number of people buying motor homes. Foreign holidays received a double whammy with the plummeting value of the pound against foreign currencies, and that also convinced many people to consider other holiday alternatives.
A motorhome provides so many flexible options for holidaying. Whether to stay in the UK or travel abroad, to go for a long weekend or perhaps a month or two if youre retired. And of course, after the initial outlay in purchasing the vehicle the ongoing costs are minimal in comparison to the cost of traditional holidays.
Staveley Head, one of the UKs leading motorhome insurance providers says that 2009 was an unusually active year for new and existing motorhome enthusiasts, and they are already experiencing a very early start to the 2010 season.
A Staveley Head spokesman said “Despite the appallingly bad winter, with Arctic conditions across the whole country throughout most of January, we are already noticing a substantial increase in the number of people enquiring about motorhome insurance in readiness for the 2010 season which will start in March. We believe the trend towards motorhome ownership is gathering momentum and 2010 could prove a record year. We would remind owners, however, that if they are travelling abroad it is prudent to take out travel insurance.”
For first-time buyers there is a lot to consider when purchasing a motorhome. Firstly, check your driving licence to see what class of vehicle you are entitled to drive. On an ordinary driving licence this will either be up to 3.5tonnes or 7.5tonnes depending on when you passed your driving test. Anything over 7.5tonnes will require you to take a further LGV driving test. Obviously a smaller vehicle is more practical in terms of parking, winter storage and fuel consumption- but has restricted space and internal storage. You should decide if a motorhome is going to be an occasional hobby, or something you will be using for regular and extended periods and make your selection accordingly.
